Where You Go For Physical Therapy Is Your Choice.

When Medication and Rest Isn’t Enough, it’s Time to Choose Physical Therapy.Where You Go For Physical Therapy Is Your Choice!

If you’re like most people, when pain and discomfort strikes, you schedule an appointment and have a conversation with your doctor. This is where we want to help you! Check out these key points below about How to Have the “Talk”, Physical Therapy is Your Choice, What to Consider When Making Your Choice for Physical Therapy, and Why Premier is the Right Choice.

How to Have the “Talk” About Physical Therapy with Your Doctor
After you’ve tried medication and rest and you’re still in pain and/or discomfort, you need to schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor. That’s when it’s the right time for you or your doctor to bring up the idea of physical therapy. While medication and rest are effective at temporarily relieving some pain, physical therapy takes a different approach. Your physical therapy program’s goal is to identify the root of your problem, so that you not only relieve the pain and discomfort, but that you also don’t have a recurring issue. It’s the most effective way to getting you back to full strength and doing the things you love again.

To get your physical therapy program started, you simply need to tell your doctor: “I want to go to Physical Therapy.” Your doctor can write a prescription that serves as a recommendation for your physical therapy program. Programs can range from orthopedic, spine, hand, and foot to aquatic, industrial and sports therapy.

    The Choice Is Yours
Now that your decision to take that next step has been made, your doctor will ask you where you’d like to go to start your physical therapy program. It’s important to realize that while he or she may make suggestions, this choice is 100% yours. Where to go to physical therapy is your choice! If you’re not sure of where you’d like to go, you have the option to tell your doctor you’d like to visit a couple physical therapy offices first to make sure you go to the best place for you. Knowing that your program could last weeks or months, you should take your time in making this decision based on the factors that matter to you most.

What To Consider When Making Your Physical Therapy Choice
The Staff: Are the physical therapists fully trained and reputable? Are they specialized and experienced in serving patients with your unique needs?

The Location and Hours: Keep in mind, you may be going to therapy two or three times per week. You’ll want to choose an office that has convenient hours, and one that is an easy stop before or after work, or close to your home.

The Services Offered: Not every physical therapy office is the same. Some specialize in orthopedic and spinal injuries. Others specialize in sports injuries. You’ll want to make sure they’ll be able to serve you.

Patient Recommendations: Be sure to check out online reviews, and ask around to find out where your friends, family and coworkers have found relief and positive results with a physical therapy program.

  • 3 Ways Physical Therapy Can Benefit Seniors Today

3 Ways Physical Therapy Can Benefit Seniors Today

We often think of physical therapy after a sports injury or an accident such as a car wreck or a fall. While Premier Physical Therapy sees many patients who need help after an injury or accident, we also help many elderly patients to enjoy far greater mobility and strength. Below is 3 Ways Physical Therapy Can Benefit Seniors Today.

Orthopedic Care After a Fall or Injury

The statistics are sobering: About 1 in 4 Americans over 65 will experience a major fall each year. These falls often result in broken bones, including fractured hips. While the resulting injury may require surgery or considerable time to heal, physical therapy becomes invaluable to achieve greater mobility and speed up the recovery process.

Our skilled team at Premier is well trained in anatomy and the musculoskeletal system. We see many patients who receive a treatment plan that is personalized to your pain and designed to improve your function. Whether your injury is recent or if it’s been nagging you after several months or years, our professionals will work with you until the pain finally goes away.

Active Movement to Build up Strength

Sometimes there are instances when a senior might be hospitalized due to a prolonged illness, surgery or an injury, it’s the excessive time spent in the hospital bed or even at home laying down after discharge that makes it far worse.

Your body needs active movement. Spending days or weeks lying in a hospital bed with little to no movement becomes hard on your body. You would typically see your joints become stiffer, muscles tighter, and your balance may be unsteady.

    Help Managing Chronic Pain

We believe some of the toughest individuals are the elderly who live with constant pain. Morning, noon and night, they fight through the pain caused by osteoarthritis or another chronic affliction. Living with pain negatively affects their quality of life. Too often this constant pain causes the elderly to sacrifice hobbies they love. Cooking, needlepoint and woodwork are difficult when your hands always hurt.

The solutions available to younger men and women won’t always benefit seniors. Seniors aren’t always good candidates for surgery and sometimes pain medicine may be too strong or may react with other medications.

Therefore, physical therapy is one of the best options to fight chronic pain. A proven physical therapy plan can help seniors in regain flexibility, strength and balance while minimizing pain.

At Premier Physical Therapy our patient-focused team provides an easier, less intrusive and even fun way for seniors to get their lives back.

We offer a Premier 5-Star Plan that’s ideal for seniors. It starts with a thorough examination. After pinpointing your exact injury, we prescribe a personalized treatment plan. Your personalized plan consists of one-on-one treatment.

Over time — whether it’s weeks or months — we create progress surveys so you know just how close you are to healing, gaining mobility and becoming pain-free. Finally, we suggest preventative care so you can stay healthy and injury-free for years to come!

If you are a senior or with an injury, living with chronic pain or needs help with incontinence or other issues that restrict your mobility and quality of life, we invite you to meet our friendly Premier Team — the best physical therapists in Southeast Missouri.

  • 4 Reasons Why World Physical Therapy Day Should Be EVERY Day

4 Reasons Why World Physical Therapy Day Should Be EVERY Day

Nowadays, it seems like every day of the year is devoted to a ridiculous, fabricated day. Have you heard of Run Up The Flagpole And See If Anyone Salutes Day? Yes, that’s an actual day that falls on January 2nd. How about No Socks Day on May 8th? Or National Cream-Filled Donut Day on September 14th. Yum! Then there are days that truly recognize hard-working individuals who give their all in an effort to improve the lives of others. One such day is World Physical Therapy Day that takes place every year on September 8th.

In addition, National Rehabilitation Awareness Week runs from September 16-22 of this year. At Premier Physical Therapy, we value this day and this week for two reasons: First, because they highlight the important contribution of our profession. Second, because they allow people to appreciate the tremendous benefits that physical therapy provides.

To give you a better understanding of the vast benefits that physical therapy provides, we’ve included four reasons why people need physical therapy below. However, words can only go so far. It’s only when you FINALLY get out of bed in the morning and there’s zero back pain… or when your carpal tunnel syndrome doesn’t make you want to cry as you’re typing a short email… or when you can run a half marathon after battling a nagging knee injury for months… that’s the moment you get it. That’s when you appreciate the day and week dedicated to our world.

Reason #1: Physical Therapy Helps You To Avoid Surgery

Nobody likes going “under the knife”. While it’s true that surgery can repair an injury, it’s not without risks. Not only can surgery make a bad situation even worse, it’s one of today’s most costly medical treatments. Plus, even if the surgery is a success, you’re looking at many weeks or months of recovery. Rather than assume the risks and expense of surgery (not to mention the overpriced post-surgery medication with possible side effects), physical therapy provides a more natural approach to your body’s healing. No knife, no pills and at a fraction of the cost. Rather than succumb to surgery, check out Premier’s 5 Star Plan for treating pain.

Reason #2: Physical Therapy Helps You Recover From A Sports Injury

As great as physical activity can be for your health, injuries from sports are quite common for both children and adults. There’s nothing quite as frustrating as sitting on the sideline because you have a nagging injury. Whether it’s as serious as an ACL tear or as minor as a pulled muscle, your Premier physical therapist has a proven program to help you gain strength, mobility and pain-free movement. Whether you wish to prevent future injuries or heal an existing sports injury, Premier has the professionals, experience, technology and tools to get you back in the game.

Reason #3: Physical Therapy Improves Your Mobility

Walking. Standing. When we are young, we take it for granted. Then, as we age or if we endure an accident later in life, simply standing up and walking across the room can become difficult and even painful. Thankfully, the team at Premier Physical Therapy has the tools and techniques to increase your strength and improve your mobility. It starts by gaining a sense of balance so you prevent injuring yourself by falling. Then, with proven stretching and strengthening exercises, you restore your ability to move. Consider Premier’s one-on-one guidance to enhance your own mobility or to benefit someone you care about.

Reason #4: Physical Therapy Improves Use of Your Hands

You never realize just how often you use your hands until you are restricted. When the simple act of shaking hands makes you fearful. Or browsing social media is painful. When driving, cooking, crafts and simple household chores can bring tears to your eyes, it’s time to consider hand therapy. Our Certified Hand Therapist treats today’s most common ailments, including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Cubital Tunnel Syndrome, tendon injuries, nerve injuries, repetitive motion injuries and even hands that have been crushed. Discover what our Certified Hand Therapist can do to for your pain.

These are simply four of the MANY ways physical therapists can help you to heal. Among the physical therapists in Cape Girardeau and the surrounding area, only Premier Physical Therapy offers a 5-Star Plan to help relieve your pain and get you back to life. Back to what you love. Go ahead, meet the Premier Team — the best physical therapists in Southeast Missouri.

  • Why I Opened Premier Physical Therapy

Why I Opened Premier Physical Therapy

    physical therapy, dennis riney,

Why I opened Premier Physical Therapy

A dream was fulfilled on a warm morning in August of 2006 when Premier Physical Therapy welcomed its first patient.  The anticipation and excitement were immeasurable.

We were fortunate to help eight patients the very first day!  Our staff of 3 was more than pleased and honored to be part of the birth of a new locally-owned, physical therapy business.  After thousands of patients with hundreds of referral sources, community events, fundraisers and two locations later our business continues to grow to this day.  I’m grateful and humbled to have served as the founder and CEO of Premier Physical Therapy.  Our focus has been and always will be to improve the quality of life for thousands of people that we serve in our communities.

It started as a goal typed on a paper while completing my degree at Southwest Baptist University.  The goal stated that I would operate my own private physical therapy practice someday.  I displayed this list of goals at the desk of my first job as a physical therapist where I worked as a staff therapist.  It would remain there for several years.  Never out of sight and never out of mind.  The only question would be when.  There were other goals on the paper as well.  These included that I would live in a Christ-like manner treating everyone with equality and respect regardless of background or situation, I would continue to promote health and nutrition (I also have a dietetics degree from Missouri State University), and others related to my passion and mission for serving others.

The why is simple.  I felt called to serve at what I determined would be the highest level of responsibility.  I desired to have an environment in that I could serve my family, my team, my patients, my community, my profession and God.  Having our own business was the answer.  I also felt that I could possibly create some time-freedom for my family.  There is no doubt I knew that there would be risk associated with this decision, especially in today’s healthcare environment,  but I also knew that reward and satisfaction could also follow.  I was willing to take that risk.  I desired to pursue the reward and satisfaction of knowing that I’m doing everything I can.  I knew there was potential satisfaction that we would provide a special place for people to work, serve and to ultimately give back.  Giving, growing, and receiving are both a professional and personal passionate mission of mine.

I like to create and I’m a firm believer that we create our own culture.  This is exactly what we have done here at Premier Physical Therapy.  We’ve created an environment that is positive, friendly, loving, and healing while providing care that is highly-skilled.  That’s the balance and the key to our success.  Our business model is also one that is very organized, measurable, structured and produces the products we need to complete our mission.

I feel very blessed to be part of something so special.  I’m grateful to have the opportunity to serve our team, our patients and our community.  Having a business is a huge responsibility but for me it has been such a rewarding experience.  I’m learned that people will follow because of “why” we are doing what we are doing.  The why behind anything is the key.  Here at Premier Physical Therapy we all share my original why.  The why is to serve and to serve at the highest level.  I feel that leading this business guides myself and our team to do what I feel God intended for us to do and this business brings us together with a mission of serving others, improving the quality of their lives.
