Back pain can be caused by a number of different things. These often include arthritis and other chronic conditions, but it can also be the result of trauma, such as a car accidents or other unexpected, or violent actions.
However, none of those reasons (not even all of them combined) make up the majority of back pain cases. In fact, around 80 percent of the cases come on for no apparent or obvious reason. Many times simply lifting something awkwardly or poor posture can also lead to neck pain or back pain. This is especially true for people who sit down for long periods of time in their jobs.
If you have a slouched posture, you are putting your spine in an unnatural position which can cause pain over time.
Pain and injury can also occur during improper or awkward lifting. A quick or awkward twisting movement while lifting can be too much for your joints and muscles in your back to effectively handle without injury.
Workplace behaviors are a common cause of back pain. We address ergonomics in physical Therapy. We teach you a variety of exercises, stretches, and activities to help strengthen your back and relieve your back pain.
We work with lots of different types of patients. These include pregnant women or women who are having postpartum pain that is caused by the physical demands of having a child.
When speaking about back pain physical therapy, we also place a great emphasis on core strength. The core area stabilizes and protects the spine. So as part of our back pain physical therapy regimen, we focus heavily on manual therapy and movements to strengthen your abdominal muscles.
Neck pain and back pain are incredibly common. And physical therapy serves as a great “first line of defense” when it comes to getting help for these issues.
