The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) attaches your jawbone to your skull. These act like hinges and are on each side of your jaw. Pain can occur at the jaw joint and in the muscles that help control your jaw opening and closing.

Trauma, improper bit, arthritis, grinding/clenching, stress, genetics, and general wear and tear can cause TMJ disorder. It is most common in those 20-40 years of age and is more common in women than men.

Some common symptoms that occur with TMJ are:

  • Pain or tenderness of the jaw.
  • Aching in or around the ear.
  • Painful chewing.
  • Facial Pain
  • Locking of the joint, which makes it difficult to open and close your mouth.
